Labor Day, also known as "May Day" and "International Workers' Day or May Day", is a national holiday in more than 80 countries around the world. It's scheduled for May 1st every year. It is a festival shared by working people all over the world.
Origin of Labor Day
At the end of the 18th century, many countries, such as the United States and Europe, gradually developed from capitalism to imperialism. In order to stimulate the rapid economic development, extract more surplus value, and maintain this high-speed capitalist machine, capitalists constantly exploited workers cruelly by increasing labor time and labor intensity.
In the United States, workers have to work 14 to 16 hours a day, some even as long as 18 hours, but their wages are very low. The heavy class oppression aroused the great anger of the proletarians. They know that the only way to strive for survival is to unite and fight against the capitalists through the strike movement. The strike slogan put forward by the workers is to demand an eight-hour working week.
