2020-2021 has been a year somewhat fraught with new challenges. The challenge of returning to school after a long imposed break due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus has meant that LiMai Kindergarten has had to face new challenges this year that were mostly unexpected.

However this week has marked the successful completion of the school year by holding our final parent teacher meetings of the school year. These meetings are held 4 times per calendar year and twice per-semester, are another tool for teachers to indicate the children’s progress to their parents.

Despite the wet and dreary weather both parents and teachers were eager to meet to discuss and aid the children in receiving the best education possible. For the international team, the teachers focus on a variety of areas when reporting on a child’s progress. These areas are evaluated during the student assessments and additionally reported in the bi-monthly reports.

The areas reported to the parents are, listening and comprehension, oral development, work habits, reading readiness and writing skills. These are then sub-divided further into areas as varied as phonics and maths, to social skills and physical development.

Praise is given where it is earned, and any areas in need of further development are indicted and action plans are delivered, as well as information as to how parents can play their part in a child’s education too.

However not all of the meetings are conducted under such sterile and serious conditions as the scope of pure academic progress. The LiMai LiShuiQiao kindergarten prides itself on the relationship between school, teacher and parents being a wholesome, friendly and rewarding.

Therefore, often teachers and parents talk with a level of familiarity and friendliness that reflects a genuine care and warmth towards the students here. The environment reserved for each class also reflects this, with a quiet area (which is not always easy in a kindergarten) selected and laid out in a pleasing manner.

So with the better part of the school year behind us we only have the future to look forward to. With the information accrued regarding their children’s progress, those children returning for K2, K3 and K4 will have parents knowledgeable in which areas they are exceeding goals and where they will require, just a little more practice. Here at LiMai it is always our pleasure and duty to help the children explore their infinite potential, and parent teacher meetings are just one aspect of that we deliver.
